The Story of Owen!

Five years ago I went to a memorial for a young boy who at age 13 lost his life to neuroblastoma,  Owen was was the younger brother of my middle sons best friend, his bestest friends called him the O-Dog because he had a smile for everyone.

Owen Christopher Moscone was the grandson of the late San Francisco Mayor George Moscone.

At his memorial I was marveled by his parents who celebrated his life at the same baseball field where he slid into home plate. Yet instead of mourning their loss, they celebrated his life with balloons and music.

As a mom of three boys I thought...there is no way I would ever be able to do this.... but his parents did.

Over the previous three years his parents had sought the best in care for Owen. They even flew his closest friends to a hospital oversees so he could be surrounded by friends.

"Owen had a light within him"...countless friends approached the microphone at his Memorial and recounted how Owen changed their life and how his spirit would live within them forever.

Personally, I broke when his brother, my son's best friend approached the microphone and recounted his last night with his brother. He had just come back from a long night of studying and Owen called him over to help him with his fantasty football picks (which Owen was an avid participant). He called out namesfor his brother for his approval, they then both happily fell asleep.

Owen died that night!  Owens soul lives on in his family and friends. I am happy that my son experienced the spirit of the O-Dog!
